Trigger Point Injections (TPI)

Injections that deactivate tight, painful muscle knots (trigger points) to relieve localized and referred muscle pain.

About this procedure

Trigger points are hyperirritable knots within muscle tissue that cause local and referred pain. They can develop after injury, overuse, or chronic tension and are common in the neck, shoulders, back, and hips. Trigger point injections deliver a small amount of local anesthetic — sometimes with an anti-inflammatory agent — directly into the trigger point, causing the muscle to relax and breaking the cycle of pain. Relief can be felt quickly, and many patients experience significant improvement after one or a series of injections.

Benefits

  • Fast-acting relief for muscle pain
  • Effective for myofascial pain syndrome
  • Brief procedure with minimal downtime
  • Can treat multiple sites in a single visit

What to expect

The procedure takes just a few minutes. The provider identifies the trigger point by palpation and administers a small injection. You may feel a brief twitch or cramping sensation as the muscle releases. Most patients return to normal activity the same day.
